W/H-N volleyball team improves to 9-2 overall

The Wheaton/Herman-Norcross volleyball team ran its record to 7-0 with two more wins last week over Sisseton, SD and Hancock.

The Warriors, coached by Darla Thiel, opened up the 2017 season with a four-game win over Battle Lake and then went on to beat Ortonville in three games before claiming the title at the Wheaton/Herman-Norcross Invitational, Sept. 9. And, that was only the first week of action.

Last week, during the second full week of the regular-season, the Warriors continued their strong play with a four-game victory at Sisseton, SD and a three-game sweep over Hancock. W/H-N also competed at the Hawley Tournament, Saturday, going 3-1 overall to place fourth.

In the results that follow is information about the Ortonville match and W/H-N Tourney, along with a recap of last week’s sweep of Hancock. No information was received for the Sisseton match.

W/H-N, which was 24-4 last year, is 2-0 in the Pheasant Conference and 9-2 overall, while Clinton-GB is 2-0 in league play and 3-2 overall, Ortonville is 2-1 and 2-7, West Central Area is 1-2 and 4-4, and Hancock is 0-4 and 1-5.

The Warriors are in a loaded section again this year with Wadena-Deer Creek (9-1), Barnesville (7-2), Henning (9-1), Underwood (7-3), New York Mills (7-1), and Pelican Rapids (10-1), among others.

Overall, seven teams from Section 6A are ranked among the top 36 teams in Class A, including second-ranked WDC, eighth-ranked Barnesville, and the 29th-ranked Warriors.

This week, W/H-N was set to host Clinton-GB, Tuesday (yesterday), for a key Pheasant Conference contest before traveling to West Central Area for a match with the Knights, Thursday.
